Even More Grilled Cheese!!

Okay, I think I had a little too much fun last week celebrating “National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day”! After the first two grilled cheese recipes (here and here), I just couldn’t stop… For now, this is the last one I’ll be posting in this series, but I may dream up more recipes later! Now on to today’s post: the Mascarpone and Nutella Grilled Cheese! 🙂

First, assemble your ingredients.

You are going to need:

  • Sliced bread (I used honey wheat because I don’t like white bread, but I wanted the extra sweetness of the honey.)
  • Mascarpone cheese (Mascarpone cheese is a little harder to find than other specialty cheeses. You may be able to find some in the specialty cheese section of your local grocery store, usually in the deli section. It is routinely in stock at my local Whole Foods, so you may have more luck there!)
  • Nutella
  • Strawberries (A banana would also work if you prefer!)
  • Butter, at room temperature
You are also going to need the following tools:
  • Butter knife
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Skillet or saute pan
  • Rubber spatula

Begin by buttering two slices of bread. (You want to make sure your butter is at room temperature for this step so that you don’t tear the bread.)

Using a butter knife, spread approximately 2 tablespoons of mascarpone cheese. (Mascarpone cheese, if you’ve never used it before, is a slightly sweet Italian cream cheese. It is typically used in Tiramisu and other Italian dishes.)

On a cutting board, thinly slice a few strawberries.

Place a layer of strawberries on top of the mascarpone cheese.

On the unbuttered side of the other slice of bread, spread approximately 1 tablespoon of Nutella. (Don’t forget to lick the spoon! You should never waste Nutella…)

Preheat your skillet or saute pan over medium heat. After a few minutes, place the slice of bread with the cheese buttered side down. Place the Nutella covered slice of bread on top, buttered side up.

Once both sides of the grilled cheese are lightly browned and the cheese has melted, remove from the heat and place on a cutting board. Let cool for approximately 1 minute since the mascarpone and Nutella will be very hot and squishy…

Slice grilled cheese in half along the diagonal. Serve with additional sliced strawberries. Enjoy! 😀

    • Haha, I liked it the other way better! 😛

PS. I had to leave the jar of Nutella at Devin’s cause it’s too dangerous to have in my own house…
